Countless people find strength in the belief that every individual matters deeply to God. This conviction inspires us to care for our world and those around us, showing love through our actions. Recently, this spirit came alive in our local community when volunteers dedicated their time and care at the St Vincent de Paul Shelter on Apple Street. Their service reminds us that love is not just a feeling but a commitment to the well-being of others.

Serving with Purpose and Compassion
Jesus came to live among us because each person matters to God. This truth calls us to take responsibility for the world entrusted to us—not only as caretakers of the environment but as stewards of compassion and service. When we care for our neighbors, we bring this calling to life in meaningful ways.
On this special day, four volunteers—Karla Miles, Greg Cleary, Joy Witt, and Linda Schmidt—answered this call. They prepared and served a nourishing lunch to guests at the shelter, showing kindness and generosity. Their actions demonstrated how small gestures can create a big impact.
Meeting the Needs of Two Groups
The volunteers served two distinct groups at the shelter:
Families group: 37 guests, including parents and children
Single women’s group: 41 guests seeking support and community
Each person was welcomed warmly and served with genuine care. The volunteers made sure everyone felt valued and respected, creating an atmosphere of dignity and hope.
The Joy of Sharing a Meal
A meal is more than just food; it is a moment of connection and comfort. On this day, the volunteers offered a variety of dishes designed to nourish both body and spirit. The guests appreciated the effort and care that went into every plate.
No meal was complete without a sweet treat. The volunteers brought six different varieties of cookies, which quickly became the highlight of the lunch. Many guests enjoyed seconds and even thirds, savoring the simple happiness that comes from being cared for and remembered.
Why Community Service Matters
This story shows the power of community love and service. By dedicating their time and effort, Karla, Greg, Joy, and Linda embodied the spirit of caring for neighbors in need. Their example reminds us that:
Small actions can make a meaningful difference
Serving others strengthens community bonds
Compassion is a practical way to live out faith and values
When we serve, we create moments where love becomes real and transformative. These moments build hope and remind everyone that they matter.
How You Can Make a Difference
If this story inspires you, consider ways to get involved in your community. Here are some simple steps to start:
Volunteer at local shelters or food banks
Donate food, clothing, or other essentials
