Transforming Our Parish: Implementing Recommendations for Spiritual Growth from RenewalWorks

Updated: Dec 18, 2025

Spiritual growth is a journey that requires intentional effort and community support. Our parish recently took a significant step forward by approving key recommendations from the RenewalWorks Workshop Team. These recommendations aim to deepen our faith, strengthen our community, and embed scripture more fully into our daily lives and ministries. This post explores how we plan to bring these ideas to life and what they mean for every member of our parish.

Promoting and Using Forward Day by Day

Forward Day by Day is a daily devotional guide that offers scripture readings, reflections, and prayers. It has long been a valuable resource for personal spiritual growth. Our parish will actively promote its use by:

  • Making copies available at church entrances and community centers

  • Encouraging members to incorporate it into their daily routines

  • Hosting small group discussions based on the daily reflections

By integrating Forward Day by Day into our lives, parishioners can experience consistent spiritual nourishment and a deeper connection to scripture.

Creating a Blog for Sharing Spiritual Journeys

One of the most exciting recommendations is to create a parish blog where members can share their spiritual journeys. This platform will:

  • Provide a safe space for honest reflections and testimonies

  • Encourage dialogue and mutual support among parishioners

  • Highlight diverse experiences of faith within our community

For example, a parishioner might write about how a particular Bible verse helped them through a difficult time, or how participating in a retreat changed their perspective. This blog will foster a sense of belonging and inspire others on their spiritual paths.

Promoting a Congregation-Wide Bible Reading Method

Reading the Bible regularly can be challenging without guidance. To address this, we will introduce a congregation-wide Bible reading method that:

  • Offers a clear, manageable plan for daily or weekly scripture reading

  • Includes group check-ins to share insights and questions

  • Provides resources such as reading guides and study questions

This approach helps everyone, from beginners to seasoned readers, engage with the Bible in a structured and supportive way. For instance, a monthly theme might focus on the Psalms, with group discussions to explore their meaning and relevance.

Embedding the Bible in All Parish Ministries

Spiritual growth happens not only in worship but also through service and fellowship. Embedding the Bible in all parish ministries means:

  • Integrating scripture into ministry meetings and activities

  • Using biblical principles to guide decision-making and outreach

  • Encouraging ministry leaders to share relevant scripture during gatherings

For example, the youth ministry might start meetings with a short Bible reflection, while the outreach team could use scripture to inspire acts of service. This practice ensures that the Bible remains central to everything we do as a parish.

Conducting Vestry and Parish Retreats for Spiritual Growth

Retreats offer a unique opportunity to step away from daily distractions and focus on spiritual renewal. Our plan includes:

  • Organizing regular retreats for the vestry to deepen their leadership through prayer and reflection

  • Hosting parish-wide retreats that welcome all members to participate

  • Incorporating workshops, prayer sessions, and quiet time for personal reflection

These retreats will help build stronger relationships within the parish and provide space for individual and collective spiritual growth. For example, a weekend retreat might include guided meditation on scripture, group sharing, and time for personal prayer.

Our parish’s commitment to these recommendations marks a new chapter in our spiritual journey. By promoting daily devotionals, creating a space for sharing stories, encouraging Bible reading, embedding scripture in ministries, and offering retreats, we build a stronger, more connected community rooted in faith.

Every member has a role to play in this transformation. Whether you pick up Forward Day by Day, contribute to the blog, join a Bible reading group, or attend a retreat, your participation enriches our collective spiritual life. Together, we can grow deeper in faith and support one another on this meaningful path.
